Appalachian Counseling & Psychological Services (ACAPS) strives to provide comprehensive and research-based support through a variety of services.
Psychological & Neuropsychological Evaluations:
Psychological & neuropsychological evaluations are procedures which measure and identify an individual's current functioning intellectually, neurologically, educationally, and/or behaviorally, in order to arrive at a proper diagnosis and to guide treatment options. These evaluations can often get to the root of a problem in daily functioning that has been difficult to identify.

Mental Health Therapies:
ACAPS provides mental health therapy to both adults and children through individual, family, and couple's therapies. Our therapies address a variety of mental health issues. We have a Spanish-speaking therapist on staff in both our Asheville and Spruce Pines locations.

Speech-Language Assessment & Treatment:
ACAPS offers speech and language assessment and treatment services. Our speech and language department has the ability to provide comprehensive testing during all psychological evaluations in order to provide a thorough evaluation of a patient's speech and language processing, comprehension, and/or social communication competencies.
In addition to assessment, treatment in both an individual and group setting is offered. We provide targeted interventions to individuals with identified speech-language difficulties as a result of developmental delay, stroke, brain injury, Autism, or other complications. We also offer socialization groups targeted at individuals who struggle with socialization and their ability to relate to others in a social setting as a result of Autism, developmental difficulty, or other speech delay.
Evaluation and Treatment options are offered for the following:
- Speech-sound disorders
- Receptive Expressive language disorders
- Social Communication Disorder
- Selective Mutism
- Cognitive-language based disorders related to results of stroke, TBI, or other
ACAPS also offers psychiatric medication management services to its established patients.
